Book Review – The Cobra Event by Richard Preston

This book is about a terrorist attack in New York city. The terrorist uses a biological weapon that is genetically engineered. It combines small pox, the common cold, and a virus found in nature. As a result the victim exhibits symptoms of Lesch-Nyhan Syndrome, in which he or she chews himself, and eventually dies. This Syndrome is very rare and is a true possiblity that this might happen.

I can understand why the terrorist chooses to wipe out the city, considering what happened after the Black Death. After the Black Death in the 1300’s people inherited more property, had more food to eat, and therefore led better lives. There were less workers and as result machines were developed to increase productivity. However, I don't support terrorism and there are better options than killing people.
I recommend this book for those who like thrillers and don't mind gruesome images.
